We knew that our year in Hungary would be an amazing cultural experience for our kids, but finding an actual Eastern European Molotov Cocktail was more than we could have dreamed for our budding young rioters.

The first meeting of our after-school 9th grade English Club was a huge success. We ate American-style junk food at my place and then played outside. Regardless of the game, the rules pretty much boiled down to: avoid the dog poop. Nobody won.

Goulash Challenger # 2. Date: Sept. 17. Place: Castle Hill. Score: 5. Cold, bland dumplings; poor quality beef and mediocre flavor. Sam's goulash still reigns supreme.

To the casual observer, a perfectly calm, relaxed door. However, upon further inspection...

On the one hand, I'm proud of my students' English ability. On the other hand, perhaps I shouldn't leave them alone with chalk.

One of Sam's English classes. 9th graders don't get the best rooms.

Does Sam Make the World's Best Goulash? Challenger #1 Place: Somewhere Downtown. Cost: About $7. Rating: (on the 1 to 10 scale: 1 = Chef Boyardee Goulasharoni; 10 = as delicious as Sam's) 6. The quest continues.

This is the view from our balcony. Our building looks nothing like this one...it's a completely different shade of gray.

Crossing one's legs at the knees is strictly forbidden in London, it seems.

The kids are really more excited about the trip than they are letting on. Really.
